Very difficult to drive when you get caught in a rain storm at night with no wipers to speak off when you are in the middle of nowhere and have to be some where. They become loose and allow the blades to slip from the proper path and collide with each other. Finally just discovered that the problem is in the workings of the wiper motor arms that are not designed well and very cheap quality connections. We have had the van for about six months and have changed the wiper blades about 6 or 8 times. Removing the passenger side blade causes the drivers side blade to operate in a changing pattern, moving from as little as 5" to moving beyond the drivers side windshield edge where is gets bound up on the door. This van uses the criss cross pattern and the drivers side wiper slips out of time and causes a collision between the wiper blades and causes the passenger side wiper to bend or break when the two wiper blades meet. The windshield wipers get caught together and break. This is ridiculous.Īll problems of the 2001 Chevrolet Venture The dealership wants to charge 240 dollars plus tax for repairs. First time ever that I have had the windshield wipers on any vehicle I have owned go out, much less go out twice. You can hear the motor trying to turn to move the wipers but they are not moving. They have been running fine until about three weeks ago. They found out that they had to replace the transmission for the wipers and set the timing. We brought the van in and they replaced the wiper arm and they could not get the timing right on the wipers. When we finally called back to see if the parts had come in, they told us that they had and they just forgot to call us. They did not have the parts to fix it so they ordered the parts. We brought it to the local dealership in baker, louisiana. It was still under warranty at the time (11000 miles). The passenger side had been bent and we removed the arm so that we could drive the van with just the driver side wiper. We had to turn them off and drive the rest of the way to church with no wipers. The drivers side was still attempting to work. The windshield wipers hit each other and the passenger side was laying limp on the side. We were traveling east on highway 10 to church on a wendesday evening. Where we bought the van refused to help, the gm helpline just very rudely told me it was my problem. It was raining in louisiana and I was driving to pick up my husband from work. Nelson made sure to put the new gasket on this engine. To replace the engine, we lucked out finding one that had only 40,000 miles on it. We had the servive done at d&n garage 4929 south m-76 west branch, mi 48661, the owner is nelson smith. The mechanic who replaced our engine told us he has seen several chevy Venture vans with the same exact problem we had. When this first happened, no dummy light came on, nothing to even tell me there was a problem, such as low oil or service engine. It definitely was the faulty gasket that caused our engine to be replaced. We replaced our engine with a used one, that is all we could afford. Overwelmed by severity of this gasket problem readily available on the internet. Dealership & gm customer care refused any assistance. Diagnoses was: intake gasket collapsed, causing connecting rod to go through engine. 2 miles took ride from unknown couple, had van towed. No oil light or change in temp, gauge observed. 1998 chevy Venture, engine light came on, pulled over engine tapping & smoking.
